DBB is the ticker for DutchBud credits — the closed-loop funny-money that powers little thank-yous across the 3DN family (welcome bonuses, mascot discoveries, the occasional “you found the thing” reward).
Two questions always show up about five seconds after someone sees the three letters:
- How do you even say that?
- Is this real money I can buy a stroopwafel with?
Answer to #2: no. It’s virtual. On purpose. Answer to #1: oh, we have options.
Pronunciation desk: pick your fighter
1. Dee-dee-bee (the geeky one)
Say it like a modem trying to make friends: dee-dee-bee. Yes, the letters are D-B-B. No, speech does not have to pass a code review. It sounds like something you’d mutter while waiting for a ledger hash to confirm — which is exactly the vibe.
Use this one in demos, API walkthroughs, and any room where someone has already said “HMAC” without flinching.
2. Dibs (the American one)
If you ever lived in the US (hi), you already know dibs. It’s how you claim the front seat, the last slice, the good office chair, or emotional ownership of the aux cord.
“Dibs on shotgun.”
“Dibs on the window seat.”
“Dibs on not doing the dishes.”
That last one never works. The first ones sometimes do. The point is: dibs means first claim.
Which is… almost embarrassingly perfect for a unit you earn by showing up first: first signup, first time you meet the mascot, first time you poke the right corner of the internet. You’re not buying a currency. You’re saying dibs on a little thank-you in the family ledger.
DBB, informally: dibs. As in: I called it. It’s mine. The balance agrees.
Money, money, money (but make it Ƀ)
On screens you’ll often see the Bitcoin-ish Ƀ mark next to DBB. That’s branding swagger, not a fork of mainnet. DutchBud is a closed loop: credits move between family apps and wallets; they are not a public casino chip and not a promise of euro cash under the mattress.
Think of it less as “I liquidated my portfolio” and more as “the house left a cookie on the counter because you found the kitchen.” Xiao Xin Xin (XXX — kisses, not a film rating) approves of cookies. And dibs. Especially dibs on cookies.
A tiny style guide (so we stop arguing in Slack)
- UI / ledger / API:
DBBor Ƀ — precise, boring, correct. - Voice / demos / geek mode: dee-dee-bee.
- Mascot copy, toasts, human talk: dibs.
All three point at the same balance. None of them require a pronunciation subcommittee. (We checked. The subcommittee claimed dibs on not existing.)
